Wake Up Seriously! is a blog featuring GCC news and views from globally concerned citizens. Authors include Concern staff and GCC students and teachers. If you would like to contribute your Wake Up idea, contact global.concerns@concern.net.
CONCERN STAFF
- Sylvia Wong is Concern’s Education Officer. She works with US students and teachers to bring global issues into schools. Follow GCC @concernGCC.
- Dominic MacSorley is Concern’s Operations Director. He’s been involved in humanitarian work for over 25 years with Concern. Follow Dominic @aidwkr.
- Allyson Brown is Concern’s Advocacy & Public Engagement Manager. She works on advocacy efforts around global hunger. Follow Allyson @GlobeAlly.
- Tom Arnold is CEO of Concern Worldwide. He is an internationally recognized expert on food security and hunger issues. Follow Tom @TomArnoldCEO.
- Joop Koopman is Concern’s former Press Officer. He is responsible for media relations for Concern-related humanitarian work.
- Kathy Cicerale is Concern’s Donor Care Assistant. She makes sure all donations coming in goes to the right place at Concern. Follow Kathy @KathySissy.
- Joan Bolger is Concern’s Communications Officer. She takes care of Concern’s website, blogs, social media, and anything written! Follow @Concern.
CONCERN INTERNS
- Therese Ngo is a Policy graduate student at CUNY and a GCC intern from January to June 2011. She was a former GCC club member in high school.
- Elizabeth Stoltz is a Communications student at Ithaca College. A long-time supporter of Concern, Elizabeth was a GCC summer intern in 2011.
- Melissa Bean is an undergraduate student at NYU studying Creative Writing. She interned at Concern during summer of 2011 helping to support various departments.
- Lu Wang is a graduate student at Teachers College Columbia University. She supported the GCC program as an intern from January to August 2011.
- Allison Martineau is a graduate from Columbia University’s Teachers College in Nutrition and Public Health. Allison was a GCC intern for the 2009-2010 school year.
GCC EDUCATORS
- Sinead Naughton is a History teacher at Trevor Day School and club moderator for the Global Concerns club. She has visited Concern’s programs in Haiti and Kenya.
- Catherine Conley is an English teacher at St Jean Baptiste High School and club moderator for Team SJB, which started to support Concern’s Walk for Haiti.
- Kaitlynne Foerster is a graduate student at the University of Denver. She student taught at Laredo Middle School in Aurora, Colorado from January to June, 2011.
- Donna Linton is Middle School Director at Lawrence Woodmere Academy in Long Island, NY. LWA has partnered with GCC for many years on global awareness.
- Dan Linehan is a Social Justice teacher and Student Council moderator at St. Jean Baptiste High School in NYC. He rallies Team SJB at Concern’s Annual Run.
GCC STUDENTS 2011-2012
- Francesca Conlin is a Global Concerns club leader at Trevor Day School and went to Kenya on a Concern Field Visit in July 2011.
- Amanda Riggio is a student at Ithaca College and an active member of Food for Thought, which partnered with GCC this year on the Rise Up for Rice campaign.
- Brett Hahn is a Global Concerns club leader at Trevor Day School, helping to organize numerous school fundraisers. He went to Kenya on a Concern Field Visit.
- Kristiana Dushaj is a Global Concerns club leader at St Jean Baptiste High School. She helped to spearhead Team SJB for Concern’s Annual Run for 2 years.
- Jolene Sysak is a Global Concerns club member at St. Vincent Ferrer High School. She submitted an article for the 2011 Concern Writing Competition.
GCC STUDENTS 2010-2011
- Andrea Raniolo is a former Global Concerns club member and leader at St Vincent Ferrer High School for four years. She was also a regular Concern volunteer.
- Mbelu Kalala is a former Global Concerns club member and leader at St Vincent Ferrer High School and a frequent Concern volunteer.
- Claire Freeman is a middle school student at Singapore American School. She submitted an article for the 2011 Concern Global Writing Competition.
- Hilde Nelson is a senior at Lakes Community High School in Lake Villa, Illinois. She traveled to New York with 16 other students for the 2011 Annual Student Workshop.
- Emma Orlow is a student at Trevor Day School and an active member of the Global Concerns club, helping to organize school fundraisers for Haiti and Pakistan.
GCC STUDENTS 2009-2010
- Michelle McHugh is a former high school student and Concern Debates captain at Athlone Community College in Ireland. She went to Rwanda on a Concern trip.
- Shane Dowling is a former high school student and fundraising leader at Dunshauglin Community College in Ireland. He went to Rwanda on a Concern trip.
- Christina Phelan is a former high school student and fundraising leader at Dunshaughlin Community College in Ireland. She went to Rwanda on a Concern trip.
- Joanna Tam is a former student at NYC Lab School. She wrote a song in response to reading Ishmael Beah’s memoir “A Long Way Gone” on being a child soldier.
- Shani Watler is a former student at NYC Lab School. She wrote a personal essay about her trip to New Orleans after studying the MDGs in her Human Rights class.
