Reflections on poverty and the MDGs bring back memories of a trip to New Orleans

I have been finding this unit on the Millennium Development Goals to be extremely interesting. As a fortunate youth living in NYC, I have come to understand that if I want to be socially involved in issues pertaining to the ones we discuss in Human Rights class, I am going to need to put myself out there. I am going to need to seek out information and be proactive and curious. I want to share a personal essay of mine.

Students from NYC Lab School explore the MDGs in their human rights class

Seniors in four human rights classes at the NYC Lab School have been studying the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as a unit this semester. As a start, they read Jeffrey Sachs’ “The End of Poverty” together in class and discussed their thoughts on economic development and eliminating poverty.

Global Concerns Classroom has been working with high school students in a human rights class at Henry Street School for International Studies since the fall.

In preparation for students’ participation in the GCC Annual Student Workshop in February, students focused on learning more about the topic of the global water crisis in class.
