Saint Jean Baptiste High School has recently began supporting Concern through many different fundraisers. For the past two years, Saint Jean has been a part of the Concern Fun Run. Every April, Concern hosts a run in Central Park. This walk is not only to fundraise but also to raise awareness of many issues in undeveloped nations. We had great success in raising money and more awareness in the school community.

This year’s Global Concerns Annual Student Workshop brought together students to think practically and critically about the challenges involved in achieving universal basic education and to explore viable solutions.

On Friday, May 30th, GCC facilitated our first Skype presentation on Concern’s Maternal and Child Health program with a class from the Gifted and Talented Program at Eastern Regional High School in New Jersey. Two seniors, Divya Shankar and Shikha Talwar, have been directing a Millennium Development Goal Initiative with their class called Project MDG: Make Dreams Grow.

Students at SVF make a board game depicting a young girl's journey to fetch water and the possible obstacles she may face
Students at St. Vincent Ferrer High School have been learning about the water issue for the last few months during Global Concerns club meetings. Even before the January Haiti earthquake, club members were interested in exploring the water crisis and invested in raising awareness of this issue at school. The ultimate goal was to sponsor a well in Haiti through various fundraising initiatives.

GCC set up emergency props throughout the classroom for students to explore
On February 24, 2010, Global Concerns Classroom was invited to be a part of Trevor Day School’s Activism Day. Every year, students from the MIOW (Multiple Identities One World) club organize an activism day for all high school students. In the morning, students have the opportunity to participate in two workshops of their choice. GCC was invited again to facilitate a workshop and this year the focus was on exploring emergencies and humanitarian response.
